Champions League: PSG and Bayern Prepare to Do Battle

Paris Saint-Germain vs Bayern Munich

We’re at the business end of the 2026 Champions League, down to the final four and two of the pre-tournament favorites meet in the semi-final first leg at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday.

2025 winners PSG are set to host Bayern Munich in what promises to be and enthralling contest between two of Europe’s richest clubs, each dripping with world class talent and determined to go all the way. Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga last week when they beat Europe chasing VfB Stuttgart while Luis Enrique’s Paris Saint-Germain look set to take the French crown in the coming weeks.

PSG visited Angers on Saturday evening and came away with a 3-0 win while Bayern won 4-3 away to FSV Mainz, recovering from a three-goal half time deficit in the process.

Talking Points

PSG can defend their title

Despite an inconsistent set of league results Paris Saint-Germain have pulled clear at the top of the Ligue 1 table, with a six-point advantage over RC Lens in second, so it looks like Enrique’s side can put all they have into this clash with Bayern. The manager made changes to his team on Saturday and protected his stars.

The Parisians have key men in fine form as they reach the business end of their campaigns at home and in Europe. In the 3-0 win over Nantes last week, it was Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who scored a brace, with Desire Doue bagging the third, while Ousmane Dembele, with ten goals and six assists for the season, and Bradley Barcola, with ten goals, have been scoring consistently. Only Barcola of those players featured against Angers and he was lifted midway through the second half.

Enrique’s men have put together an impressive set of Champions League results, and they saw off Liverpool in style in the quarter finals, winning 2-0 at home and then, despite the Reds going out on attack at Anfield, PSG doubled that lead with a brace from Dembele.

Skippered by central defender Marquinhos and with Achraf Hakimi at wingback, PSG have bags of experience at the back too, and with a settled team which has plenty of players who destroyed Inter Milan in the 2025 final, they will go into this semi-final without fear.

Treble seekers Bayern have a different idea

With the Bundesliga title already in the bag, Vincent Kompany’s men are on target to pick up a domestic cup too, as Harry Kane and Luis Diaz were both on the mark when Bayern beat Leverkusen in the DFB Pokal semi-final last week. Kane has flown past 50 goals for the campaign, and he is looking forward to leading England to the World Cup in six weeks’ time, while Diaz has been a superb acquisition from Liverpool, and Arne Slot’s Reds certainly seem to be missing the Colombian winger.

The Bavarians had a stiffer test than PSG in the quarter finals as Real Madrid took them to the limit. After taking a 2-1 lead away from Madrid, Kompany’s men were the favorites to make the semis, but Los Blancos roared back, leading on the night in Munich three times before Bayern eventually came out 4-3 winners and 6-4 on aggregate. The game turned in their favour when Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga was sent off, and Diaz and Micheal Olise scored late goals.

Bayern are hard to withstand when they are in full flow and, in Kane, have one of the best strikers in world football; but they do give teams a chance and have conceded quite a few goals in recent weeks. The match against Mainz was a case in point as the hosts cut though the Bavarians defence with ease before Bayern roared back with Kane scoring the 84th minute winner.

This match certainly won’t be boring!

History

Bayern are the six times winners of the Champions League, the last occasion in 2020, when Kinglsey Coman scored in a 1-0 victory over PSG, who were playing their first ever final.

PSG won the competition for the first time last season but, on their way to the final they lost 1-0 to Bayern at the league stage on Matchday Five.

In terms of recent form, the Parisians have won six and lost one of their last seven games, with 19 goals to three, while Die Bayern have won their last seven games in all competitions, scoring 24 goals and conceding 11 along the way.

Betting Tip

With Arsenal or Atletico Madrid awaiting the victors the Champions League 2026 betting odds say the winner will more than likely come from this tie. PSG are at SBOTOP odds of 2.15 to win the first leg at the Parc des Princes, with Bayern Munich at 2.75 and the Draw at 3.66.

Both teams have a good case to make, and they are both full of goals; so, I’m backing a first leg with plenty of attacking intent from each side and a few goals.
